Getting your words, audio, or video on to your blog ought to be as easy as possible. WordPress works ok, but there is a lot of fiddling and updating to keep it running, and mobile uploads haven’t been reliable for me. Also, a self hosted WordPress site is not automatically embedded into a social network. Aren’t there easier ways to blog?

In this mini podcast I give an overview of some extremely easy to use methods of blogging using sites likeposterous.com or tumblr.com. Also discussed are feed sites friendfeed.com and ping.fm.

Friendfeed.com and ping.fm are free services that allow you to bring your various online posts, feeds, pictures, links, and so on into a clearinghouse type system where all of your stuff can be in one place. These services also allow you to pass this information to other blogs or social networks.

Tumblr.com is a super simple way to create and maintain your online presence. This mini podcast briefly examines how Tumblr works and why you may be interested in trying it.

They host it, and post it in the Audioboo community, but you can also post your podcast elsewhere, like on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or your blog. RSS feeds are automatic so you can be listed on iTunes and on other podcasting feeds.

Pressing only a few buttons, you are free to concentrate on creating your podcast instead of tinkering with all the usual technicalities of podcasting. It is so easy. I question why I should use any other method for the type of podcasts I do.

The emphasis of these podcasts is on “maintain”, as there are easier ways to end up online and harder more technical and time consuming ways to post online.

Having been on vacation for over a week and using the added time and space in my day to explore other ways to present oneself online, I realized that the “normal” advice of starting a Wordpress blog isn’t the only way to go. Other options ought to be considered as well.
